Craft denim
Opened in 2016 in a renovated 1920s factory, Blackhorse Lane Ateliers is now a thriving craft denim manufacturer.
As well as manufacturing their own line of selvedge and organic raw denim, they also offer sampling and production for other like minded brands. They quote themselves as standing for three main principles:
QUALITY
COMMUNITY
ECO-CONSCIOUSNESS
To adhere to these beliefs, B.L.A have an open door policy, proudly happy to show you around their factory and talk you through the quality and finish of their garments. The slow pace within the factory shows the care and time that is put into each and every garment.
Their store in Coal Drops Yard, has the same ethos. Friendly staff are able to help you choose the perfect fit and can amend to your desired length. They also offer lifelong repairs to ensure your perfect pair can last a lifetime.
They are now working on setting up their own laundry, following funding provided by the Business of Fashion, Textiles and Technology’s (BFTT) Small to Medium Enterprises Creative R&D Program. The aim is to develop R&D around “sustainable laundering and finishing techniques to enable the emergence of a new and unique ‘London’ denim-washing aesthetic inspired by the principles of the circular economy,” BFTT stated. They are working along with the Centre for Circular Design at Chelsea College of Arts (UAL), focusing on sustainability as a driving force behind their concept to support innovation and education within denim garment washing.
In their spirit of collaboration Blackhorse Lane has linked up with Denham the Jeanmaker for their SP23 Denim Edit. An ideal fusion of two brands who both care about denim story telling, quality and the art of jean making. The garments are hand-stitched at Blackhorse Lane Ateliers by talented craftsmen and craftswomen, using only the finest virgin selvedge denim from Candiani Denim in Italy and Japanese denim made by Kaihara in Japan featuring organic cotton. The collection is concepted and designed in Amsterdam and cut and crafted in London.
